Office blinds in Dubai, for screens that face the sun

Office blinds are made-to-measure blinds for a workplace's windows. Sunscreen fabric takes the glare off screens while the view stays, and blackout darkens a room for a screen or a call.

We make four kinds for offices. Vertical blinds cover long runs of glass, roller blinds sit flat to it, and roman and faux wooden blinds suit the rooms visitors see. Each one is measured at your office and fitted by the people who made it.

Blackout louvres are AED 110 per m², and roller blinds AED 90 per m² in sunscreen or blackout. Curtains Express measures, makes and fits every blind, with a two-year warranty.

Free visit to your office

There's no walk-in counter. Someone brings the fabric books to the office, holds the sunscreen against your own glass, and measures every window.

Fitted in about a week

Every blind is usually fitted within about a week of your go-ahead, with the headrail and the fitting in the price.

Two-year warranty

Every blind carries a two-year warranty, from the people who made and fitted it.

Office blinds, in short

  • Office blinds, which some call office window shades, are made to measure for a workplace, in sunscreen to keep the glare off screens and the view in, or blackout where a room has to go dark.
  • Curtains Express makes office blinds to measure, from AED 80 per m² for a sunscreen vertical blind and AED 110 per m² in blackout, with the headrail and the fitting included.
  • Roller blinds are AED 90 per m², sunscreen or blackout, with the headrail, chain and fitting included and a 2 m² minimum.
  • Vertical blinds suit long runs of office glass, because one blind covers up to about 4 m and draws to one end, both ends or the centre.
  • Sunscreen keeps an office private by day only; after dark, with the lights on inside, the floor shows through it.
  • West-facing glass takes the low sun on its screens from mid-afternoon until the end of the working day.
  • Roman blinds, from AED 180 per m², and faux wood blinds, from AED 210 per m², suit executive offices and receptions, where a blind is looked at as much as it is used.
  • Office blinds from Curtains Express are usually fitted within about a week of your go-ahead and carry a two-year warranty.

Meeting rooms and boardrooms that need to go fully dark, or that visitors see, often take curtains instead; those are on office curtains.

What office blinds cost in Dubai

A sunscreen vertical blind starts at AED 80 per m² and blackout louvres at AED 110 per m², with the headrail, the cord and chain, and the fitting included. A blind hangs flat, so it is priced on its own area, with a 3 m² minimum on each.

A 300 × 270 cm office window is 8.1 m², which is AED 648 in sunscreen or AED 891 in blackout. Ten of those along an open-plan floor come to AED 6,480 in sunscreen.

A roller blind is AED 90 per m² in sunscreen or blackout, with a 2 m² minimum, so a 180 × 250 cm window is 4.5 m², or AED 405.

For the rooms visitors see, a roman blind is from AED 180 per m² with a 2.5 m² minimum, and a faux wooden blind from AED 210 per m² with a 2 m² minimum, each with the headrail and fitting included.

What moves the figure:

The fabric
Sunscreen louvres are AED 80 per m² and blackout AED 110. Dimout, PVC and sheer louvres are priced at the visit.
Small windows
Each blind has a 3 m² minimum, so a small window costs AED 240 in sunscreen or AED 330 in blackout.
Wide glass
One vertical blind covers up to about 4 m. Wider glass takes two blinds, each priced on its own area.
A motor
A Dooya wired motor costs extra and is priced at the visit; it needs power at the headrail.

Measuring is free. Send rough sizes on WhatsApp for a first figure, and nothing is cut before you have seen the final one. Pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, or in instalments with Tabby or Tamara.

Blind up

Glare across the desk and the screen

From mid-afternoon the sun is low enough to reach right across the desk, and it lands on the screen facing the window.

Sunscreen down

Soft light, the view kept

The open weave takes the hard light off the desk and the screen, and the towers stay visible through it.

Sunscreen hides an office by day, not after dark

Sunscreen is an open weave, so it behaves like a sheer. Whichever side of the glass is brighter is the side that can be seen. Switch the hour and look at the floor from the tower opposite.

Time of day
One floor of a glass office tower seen from the building opposite at midday, sunscreen blinds lowered and the windows reading as pale panels

By day, the floor stays private

With the sun outside, closed sunscreen reads from the street and the tower opposite as an even, pale surface. From the desks, the view stays and the glare goes.

After dark, the office shows through

With the lights on and the sky dark, the office is the brighter side, and anyone opposite can see the desks and whoever is still at them. A room that has to stay private in the evening needs blackout.

Which side of the building the glass faces

In Dubai the side of the building decides which hours of the working day a blind has to work through.

West takes the sun until close

By mid-afternoon the sun is low enough to come in under any overhang and onto the screens facing it, and it stays there until the end of the working day. Sunscreen along the desks; blackout in the meeting rooms.

East takes it at the start of the day

In summer the sun is up before half past five and comes in low on east glass through the first hours of work. Sunscreen handles the desks, and a meeting room on that side wants blackout for morning presentations.

South gets low sun in winter

In the cooler months the sun sits low in the south and reaches deep into the floor for much of the day. In summer it stands almost overhead at noon and barely comes in.

North has the steadiest light

Little direct sun, except early and late on summer days, when the sun rises and sets north of east and west. North glass often needs a blind more for privacy than for glare.

Which blind for which part of the floor

Blackout rollers, a meeting room
  • Open-plan desks

Sunscreen verticals or rollers along the perimeter glass. They keep the daylight and the view and cut the glare on the screens, and a vertical draws aside when someone wants the window open.

  • Meeting rooms and boardrooms

Blackout louvres or a blackout roller for a screen, a call or a conference room presentation. A room that has to go fully dark, or that clients sit in, is often better with office curtains.

  • Executive offices

Faux wood 50 mm slats that tilt against the sun and wipe clean, or a roman blind in a fabric that suits the room.

  • Reception

A roman blind, made by hand from the same fabric book as our curtains, so the front of the office matches the rest of it.

  • Pantries and washrooms

PVC louvres on a vertical blind, which wipe clean. PVC is priced at the visit.

  • Long runs and sliders

Verticals suit a sliding door or a long window wall, because the louvres stack to the side, clear of a door's opening.

Tell us the building, which side it faces and roughly how many windows. Someone brings the fabric books to the office and measures every window, anywhere in Dubai.

Motorized blinds for a whole floor

On a long run of glass or a window behind a desk, a motor saves someone walking the length of the floor twice a day.

Vertical blinds

A vertical blind can run on a Dooya wired motor, which needs power at the headrail. It costs extra and is priced at the visit.

Roman and roller blinds

A roman runs on a wired Somfy motor, with power at the headrail, priced at the visit. Roller blinds run on Somfy motors too; the details are on our roller blinds page.

One switch for a row of blinds

From a remote, the app or a wireless switch on the wall, with timers that lower the blinds when the sun reaches that side of the building. If the office's curtains run on the same brand, the same remote or app works them too.

Power during a fit-out

A wired motor needs a power point at the head of the blind. It is easiest to arrange while the ceiling is still open, so tell us before the fit-out closes it.

Fitting blinds in a working office

Inside the recess or above it

A roman fits inside a recess at least 7 cm deep, or on the wall or ceiling above the window. A vertical blind hangs from a white headrail fixed above the glass.

The widest single blind

Past about 4 m a vertical blind is split into two, and past 280 cm wide or 300 cm in drop a roman is too.

What we don't do on vertical blinds

We don't clean, repair or replace single louvres on vertical blinds, including ones we fitted. It is better to know that before choosing them for a busy floor.

Outside office hours

We can fit in the evening or at the weekend so the floor keeps working. That costs extra, and the figure is in the quote.

Invoices and payment

Every company job gets a VAT invoice with our TRN. We take a deposit before making, and the balance once the blinds are fitted.

A whole floor

A larger order, a floor or several, is priced at a better rate than single blinds. The figure follows the measuring visit.

Questions offices ask about blinds

How much do office blinds cost in Dubai?

At Curtains Express a sunscreen vertical blind starts at AED 80 per m² and blackout at AED 110 per m², with the headrail and fitting included and a 3 m² minimum on each blind. A 300 × 270 cm window is AED 648 in sunscreen. Roller blinds are AED 90 per m², sunscreen or blackout, with a 2 m² minimum; roman blinds start at AED 180 per m² and faux wood at AED 210.

What are the best blinds for office windows?

Sunscreen vertical or roller blinds along the desks, because they cut the glare on screens and keep the view. Blackout in meeting rooms. Faux wood or roman blinds in executive offices and reception, where the blind is part of how the room looks.

Do office blinds stop glare on computer screens?

Sunscreen does. It is an open weave that takes the hard light off the screens while the room keeps its daylight and its view; louvres can also be turned against the sun. Sunscreen comes in 1%, 3% and 5% openness, and the lower the figure, the less glare gets through and the less of the view.

Can people see into the office through sunscreen blinds at night?

Yes. Sunscreen hides the office only while it is brighter outside. Once the lights are on and the sky is dark, the floor shows through it, so a room that must stay private in the evening needs blackout.

Vertical or roller blinds for an office?

Vertical blinds for long runs of glass and sliding doors, because the louvres draw to the side rather than roll up. Roller blinds for single windows, where they sit flat to the glass and roll up out of sight.

Do blackout blinds make a meeting room dark?

Dark enough for a screen, but light shows at the edges of most blackout blinds. A roller in side channels gets closest to fully dark; for a room that must go fully dark, blackout curtains on a track run past the glass do it better.

Can office blinds be motorized?

Yes. Vertical blinds run on a Dooya wired motor, roman blinds on a wired Somfy motor, and roller blinds on Somfy; each wired motor needs power at the head of the blind. The motor is priced at the visit.

How wide can one office blind be?

A vertical blind covers up to about 4 m and a roman up to 280 cm. Wider glass takes two blinds side by side.

Do you clean or repair vertical blinds?

No. We don't clean, repair or replace single louvres on vertical blinds, including ones we fitted.

Can you fit office blinds outside working hours?

Yes, in the evening or at the weekend, so the floor keeps working. It costs extra, and the figure is in the quote.

Do you give a VAT invoice?

Yes. Every company job gets a VAT invoice with our TRN. We take a deposit before making and the balance once the blinds are fitted.

Is there a better rate for a whole floor?

Yes. A larger order is priced at a better rate than single blinds, and the figure follows the measuring visit.

How long does it take, and is there a warranty?

Every blind is usually fitted within about a week of your go-ahead, after a free measuring visit, and carries a two-year warranty.
