A bedroom needs something that actually darkens; a living room needs the afternoon glare off the glass without losing the daylight; a kitchen needs something that can be taken down and washed. A doorway or a recess between two rooms is a different job again, and usually a string curtain rather than a pair.
Where a room wants something that stacks tighter than cloth, blinds are the other half of the range. We make the curtains and we fit them, so one team measures the whole house and the fabrics get matched room to room rather than ordered piecemeal. Living rooms usually want two layers
A sheer against the glass softens the glare and keeps some privacy through the day. After dark it does the opposite — once the lights are on inside, a sheer gives you almost none. So most living rooms here end up with two layers on the same window: the sheer for daytime, a heavier curtain in front of it for evening, heat and sleep.
Dust is the second argument for it. The sheer catches most of what blows in off a balcony, and a sheer comes down and washes far more easily than a lined pair.
West-facing glass is the case where this stops being decoration. From mid-afternoon it carries real heat, and a lining behind the front curtain does more about that than the colour does. There is more on weights and drops on the living room curtains page.

What is above the glass decides the job
Apartments in towers are usually built with a curtain pocket above the window, which is what a track is for. Villas more often take a pole on brackets. Either way the fixing has to reach something solid: a gypsum bulkhead needs an anchor that finds the framing behind it, and concrete needs a different anchor again.
Get that wrong and a heavy lined pair pulls the track out of the ceiling inside a year. It gets worked out on the measuring visit, not on installation day with your ceiling already drilled.
Doing a whole house at once is mostly a scheduling advantage. The windows are measured in one pass, matching rooms are cut to the same finished drop, and the fitting happens in one visit instead of five.

Bedrooms and kitchens ask for different things
A bedroom is the room where the fitting matters more than the fabric. Blackout cloth with light leaking around it is not a blackout — the light arrives at the sides and over the top, not through the weave. The track has to run wider than the glass so the curtains overlap the frame, and the drop has to finish well below the sill. On an east-facing window that detail decides whether you sleep past sunrise.
Kitchens go the other way. Steam and cooking grease make a washable fabric and a sill-length drop more sensible than a floor-length one, and near a hob a roller blind or an aluminium venetian wipes down where a lined curtain would have to come off and be cleaned.
Where curtains are already up and only one thing is wrong — a drop left too long after new flooring went in, a track that has pulled out of a gypsum ceiling — that is an alteration or a repair rather than a new set, and we do those as well.
