Faux wood blinds for the garden doors of an Umm Suqeim 2 villa

Three made-to-measure faux wood blinds for the triple glass door between a villa's living room and its garden, in Umm Suqeim 2, Dubai. Fitted on 7 October 2026.

Each glass panel has its own blind, with 50 mm slats. One cord raises it and another tilts the slats, so one panel can be open to the garden while the one beside it is shut.

A blind to each panel

The garden door is three panes of glass in one frame, and each pane got its own blind. That way the blind over the door that opens can go up when someone steps outside, and the other two stay down.

Three narrower blinds are also lighter to pull up than one the width of the whole door, since the cord carries every slat it lifts.

They are fixed to the wall above the frame rather than inside it. In the photo from the side you can see how far past the glass they reach.

From the side

Faux wood slats, tilted open

The slats are faux wood, a man-made material with a wood-grain finish. It doesn't soak up water the way timber does, and Dubai's fine dust wipes off it with a damp cloth.

Here the slats are tilted part open. Depending on which way they are turned, they throw the daylight up at the ceiling or down at the floor, so the room stays bright and nobody on the terrace can see in.

Even fully shut, a wooden blind won't black out a room: light gets in at the edges and through the small holes the cords pass through. These blinds hang on plain cords. Cloth ladder tapes down the front are an option, priced at the visit, and our wooden blinds page has the rest.

The photos were taken at ten in the morning against a bright garden, which is why the room looks darker than it is.
